I am looking into buying a laptop and I can get the free copy of microsoft 2003 on a disk OR I can get microsoft 2007 for $100. Is microsoft 2007 really worth it? Should I go for the free copy or get the copy for $100. Can you give me some pros and cons :) Thanks everyone

"I can get the free copy of microsoft 2003" What, EXACTLY, do you mean by that?

Microsoft Office 2003 for free, or MSO 2007 for $ 100, is not legal, it's blatant "Software Piracy". Whoever is making that offer is not to be trusted.

Nobody NEEDS to steal MSO 200x, period. Open Office 3 is free, and MSO compatible, from:

Office 2007 can compare with Office 2003 as listed below:

* The introduction of a "ribbon"

* The removal of toolbars & menu's

* The introduction of XML file format

The ribbon, removal of toolbars & menus

The ribbon takes the form of a barat the top of the screen. It replaces the normal drop-down menu's and toolbars and instead categorises tool buttons into "tabs".

XML file format

This means two things, the default format to save work has an X at the end of it (i.e. docx) and this file format cannot be read by 2003 (without downloading a 2007 viewer). So its often a good idea save as a 2003 document, just to ensure usability on other computers.

Other Features

Office 2007 also comes complete with many new templates, giving the user much more selection and the ability to make their work look much more professional than similar templates within Office 2003.

Office 2007 has more functions than Office 2003. MS Office 2007 has different and more colorful interface and it supports a new document format i.e. docx (XML document format).It can make a document, presentation look a lot better and colorful, it do have a lot of improvement. MS 2003 includes more templates, such as in PowerPoint and offers more ease of downloading templates online. The largest changes is the tool bar and its less flexibility with graphic.

One more thing I would like to share is, the previous versions of MS Office has somewhat same interface and therefore, while using MS Office 2007 you might feel puzzled, but obviously this is an improved version, you will surely find it better than the previous ones.

The main difference between earlier versions and 2007 and now 2010 is that the latter two versions have done away with the conventional toolbar area and have what they call the ribbon interface. Everything is now much more logical and when you switch to relevant menu and work on a particular object, say text box, picture, table, other relevant tabs and icons are displayed. You can still use right button fo mouse to access shortcuts and once you find your way round the ribbon everything really is just the same. To insert your header and footer now much more sensible, under Insert, not View. No file menu or tools, but options that were available are now to be found under Office button top left of ribbon and you can customise the quick access toolbar to include more icons you need to use regularly.

well the new (2007) is very much improved, if you are used to the old one, it might take a learning curve. id spend the extra $100, even if your not goin to use it often, as you open it up, and its so easy to use

look up "ms office 2003 vs 2007" on google
