About a week ago I was in the middle of class when all of a sudden I could not get Maya 2013 to run. Instead, I got an error message that reads as follows:

Licensing Error
Unable to initialize adlm.
Internal Error Message:
Error Code: <-104>

After clicking "close," which is the only option available, the output window displays, "license problem in GUI mode launch dialog message" Earlier however the output window said something about the temp folder instead. Also upon clicking the "close" button another small window pops up and displays:

License was not obtained

License method:
environment variable MAYA_LICENSE_METHOD='standalone'

Product choice:
environment variable MAYA_LICENSE='657e1'

License file override:
environment variable MAYA_ALT_EN is not set

I click 'ok' and the output window just closes out. I also receive this error with Maya 2014, Softimage 2013, and Mudbox 2013 as well... AND Dropbox... AAAAAAND Celtx.
I am at the end of my rope. I am ready to just wipe the whole computer. Please, if you even suspect what could be wrong please give any input!

I've had that happen not once but three times. Each time either the license key was corrupted, two of those three times the key corruption caused the dot net framework to get corrupted as well. Each time I had to call autodesk and reactivate my license key. The two times that the dot net framework was corrupted I had to download a special removal tool from microsoft and remove it. When you are cleaning up behind the dot net frame work and then planning on reinstalling it apparently you can't leave any traces of it behind. Since that is the case microsoft has a special removal tool that cleans up all traces of the dot net framework then you can reinstall a fresh uncorrupted copy. You see AutoCAD is built on the dot net framework so that if something happens to it then AutoCAD will not function properly. In my case the splash screen would appear for a second or less and then the whole thing would shut down. It is very irritating and a pain to get fixed but if you are patient and follow all of the steps then it is very doable. Good luck.

Defacto answer: Update those video card drivers. The Quadro is a video card designed for things like 3D software, while a GeForce is the line for 'consumer level' video cards and more geared for high performance 3d games. It's architecture is quite different to achieve this. Having a GeForce in your rig is not very useful, because it is not always easy to connect them together. I believe that GeForce and Quadro graphics card cannot be hooked up into SLI, but I am not sure. You are right to hook up your monitor to the Quadro, because that is what you are using. (By the way, I'm pretty sure that there will be bottlenecks somewhere in your system, and 48 GB RAM seems completely unnecessary. However, I don't know what you are doing with it.)

Just re-install your license.

Assuming your on WinVista/7/8...:

1) Hit the start button. Type "services.msc" and run it.

2) In Services, right-click "FLEXnet Licensing" and click "Stop".

3) Hit the start button again. Type "taskmgr.exe"

4) In the processes tab, look for "LMU.EXE". If you see it, right-click it and select "End Process".

5) Open an explorer window (or go to "My Computer"). In the address bar, type "C:\ProgramData"

6) Delete the "FLEXnet" folder completely.

7) Relaunch Maya. It will have you re-activate.

Stop stealing crap and pay for it, that's how. Be lucky I don't report you.

How can I tell you stole it? you have different versions of the same thing as well as other Autodesk products.

Or if you DID pay for it, or if you have a student distribution (which I bet you didnt) call support.
