Unix was created by bell labs in the 70's as a side project. Many other groups took the architecture and created their own variations of it.

In 1991, Mr. Linus Torvalds wrote his own variation of the Unix kernal and released it onto the young Internet. rms integrated it into his GNU project. Since then, "Linux" has come to refer to any OS that uses the Linux kernal. Ubuntu and Debian are Operating systems written by Canonical Ltd.

Keep in mind, "Linux" just refers to the kernal, one component of an operating system. The operating system as a whole can be completely different from other "Linux distributions."

Ubuntu IS Linux, or more specifically a Linux "distribution" (that is, a certain collection of programs and libraries compiled around a Linux kernel).

Other major Linux distributions are for example Debian (Ubuntu is based on Debian), Fedora (Red Hat), Mandriva, OpenSuSE, and Linux Mint (based on Ubuntu).

Unix is a closed proprietary operating system (Like Mac and Windows), while Linux (and Ubuntu) are open source and freely distributable.

Get Unix - FreeBSD - loose for receive. If homestead windows & Linux are on an similar not ordinary disc yet in differrent walls, you could't substitute archives afaik. once you've 2 pcs one with homestead windows, one with linux, you should use multiple courses to community and substitute archives. in case you'll attempt this, you need to maintain all of your major stuff to disc and commence afresh
