what you probably need it more RAM (memory) to buy cus 512 isnt that much or you can do the following:

Windows Knows Best

If you still see the dreaded "Your system is low on virtual memory" message then the first thing to do is make sure your computer is configured to allow Windows to automatically manage the virtual memory. In Windows XP, follow these steps:

# Click Start, then open the Control Panel.

# Click Performance and Maintenance, and then click System.

# Click the Advanced tab.

# Under Performance, click Settings.

# Click the Advanced tab.

# Under Virtual memory, click Change.

# Under Drive [Volume Label], click the drive that contains the paging file (virtual memory) settings that you want to change. In almost every case, this will be your C: drive.

# Click to select the "System managed size" option, then click Set.

# Click OK three times and restart your computer.

When you allow Windows to manage your virtual memory, it should make the optimum amount of virtual memory available, by automatically shrinking or enlarging the paging file as needed. If that doesn't solve the low virtual memory problem, there are a few more things you can try.

Virtual memory is not RAM - it is space on the hard drive that the PC stores files on for quick access (if they won't fit into RAM)

How to change the size of the virtual memory paging file

1. Open System in Control Panel.

2. On the Advanced tab, click Performance Options, and under Virtual memory, click Change.

3. In the Drive list, click the drive that contains the paging file you want to change (Normally just C:)

4. Under Paging file size for selected drive, type a new paging file size in megabytes in the Initial size (MB) or Maximum size (MB) box, and then click Set.

My suggested values would be 1500 in both boxes.

If the message comes up again, change to 2000

This will use 1.5Gb or 2Gb of space on your hard drive to create this virtual memory file.

Yes, becuase 2000 would use less resources than XP. Just remember that a lot of XP programs will work badly (or not at all) on the old 2000 interface. The speed increase is not enough for you to want the change. You should also note that 2000 is a much less refined version of the Windows NT kernal than XP (that means that XP will have far less problems).
