I talked with a knowledgeable computer technician today at Home Depot here in Downtown San Diego. He told me he had the same problem . What he did is uninstall the Read / Write CD DVD program called " Memorex "( which is what I have ). He then installed it again. He said he actually had to install it once more before it actally worked and was able to both read and Write ( erase ).

He also told me that you can not partially erase and part-ially re-write. If you erase , you erase the entire CD . Is this true ?

My first indication is to use the NERO which coincides with Sumedh's suggestion. Then a R/W CD player actually cant erase any data. It only replaces the ex-files with the new files we mention. And it is also possible with the Rewritable CDs & not with the ordinary CDs.

I hope this would solve your prob.

To install CD mastering software (R/W), make sure it is the only CD mastering software installed at any one time, they will probably conflict with each other. If so, before installing, left click every icon in the system tray (Bottom right-hand corner nest to clock) and Exit/Close all that you can (Pause Task Scheduler). Then Ctrl+Alt-Delete and End Task on all listed tasks EXCEPT for Explorer and Systray (repeat until so). Then install the software, if it still doesn't install, then you don't need the crap and get better software.
