Pc Protection Center has installed itself onto my computer and is causing huge problems. I looked into what it was of google and there was more than a page of sites saying this: ((taken from bleepingcomputer.com))

PC Protection Center 2008 is a rogue anti-spyware program from the same family as Power Antivirus 2009. This software is advertised via the use of malware, that once installed on your computer, will constantly display fake security alerts and messages stating that your computer is infected and that you should use PC Protection Center 2008 in order to remove these infections. If you then download and install PC Protection Center, it will find the malware that installed it in the first place, but not allow you to remove anything unless you first purchase the software. Though unconfirmed, even if you register the software it will most likely not remove anything based upon past behaviour with these types of products. Under no circumstances should you purchase this software and instead you should follow the free removal instructions listed below...then the instructions.

I need help from a computer person on if these sites for removal are reliable. The description above is exactly what's going on and I need it to stop. Should I run these removal programs? Can you give me a reliable site for removal?

Scads of malware in the wild, are utilizing Windows vulnerabilities producing misbehavior in browsers and systems.

One step (of several) that should be done is this:

If your PC (personal confuser) is misbehaving (POP-UP's; going to weird, unrequested sites; goofy warnings; etc., & apart from removing any malware already installed on your system) you must

TURN OFF 3rd PARTY COOKIES!! This helps stop un-requested cookies ( = pop-ups & websites) from being displayed on your machine.

Internet Explorer: go to Tools> Internet Options> Privacy> Advanced: here check 'Override automatic....'; 'Allow session cookies'; 'Allow 1st party cookies'; & 'Block 3rd Party Cookies'.

Firefox: go to Tools> Options> Privacy: here UN-CHECK 'Accept 3rd Party cookies'

Opera, et al: not sure, check under 'options' for this.

Then, you'll have to EXTRACT MALWARE REMNANTS with Spybot, Ad Aware, and all available trusted cleaners & Anti-virus software. Find the bulk of general security tools here: http://www.snapfiles.com/Freeware/security/fwantispy.html
