I have recently got a new pc with Windows 7 (I never used Vista). Unlike XP, 7 has lots of video and audio codecs already built in, I found it could play almost any video file. However not everything works, sound is missing in some files, video won't appear in others.

I was hoping somebody could advise a good codec pack that includes commonly used codecs that are not included in Windows 7. There are so many codec packs out there and lots of them are full of rubbish and spyware so I want to be careful.

Thanks in advance

Codec packs in general are bad. You should only get the codec you need to play a file. If you have too many codecs Windows could be choosing the wrong one and that is why it fails to properly play a file.

GSpot will analyze a file for free so you can see which one you should have. http://www.videohelp.com/tools/GSpot

If you do need another codec you can get just the one you need from here: http://www.videohelp.com/tools/sections/codecs

K-lite is the most comprehensive Codec Pack. I fixed all the issue with my vids/audios. Link here http://bitly.com/1kl9Ee8

Divx is a MPEG 4 codec thoroughly unrelated to AVI Quicktime's interior sight codec p.c.. could help AVI archives devoid of any of the topics your having. What media application are your AVI archives linked with? attempt replacing this to Quicktime.. proper click open with.

If you install the codec pack for Windows Media Player, you will find that of most of those problems will go away.

Avoid the codec packs. They can do more harm than good. Sometimes you need to re-install windows to fix the damage.

GSpot works well.

Also, if you don't have it, install DivX. http://www.divx.com/en/software/divx-plus

DivX along with WMP will play most anything.

KLite Codec pack is what I have used for years, it is great. I recommend using the "Mega" version.
