How do I get Windows Updates to work/stop?

Every time I shut down my computer, it says that it needs to install updates. When I boot it, it takes extra-long to configure the updates.

When it is fully booted, it says it could not find the package, requesting that I give it a path from which the downloaded package has installed updates. The default path is "1" (I know, it doesn't make sense!), and I don't have any idea where to look, if at all, where to find this update.

It does not install the updates then, but when new ones come out, they stockpile!!! I am currently at 24 updates that it tries to install every time i shut off the computer, and 24 updates it has to configure to boot, then it fails and I have to start all over again!

How do I either get these updates to work so they don't have to waste so much time or simply stop installing themselves?

Open Windows Update and view update history, there should be error codes that you can look into to see why they are failing and what to do about it. There many possible causes and solutions.

You can also change the settings for how Windows updates and you can hide updates that you don't want to be bothered with.

When it says default path is "1", it's referring to the Windows installation disk marked "1". Evidently there are some missing files on that disk that you need before the updates can be installed. Good luck.
