Computer Techies: I want my pc to run faster and stop continuously interrupting my typing.?

When I am in JUNO (ISP online) there are popups and all kinds of activities going on. While I type, it is continually interrupted. Sometimes letters end up in reverse order. (Often, actually.) It can take me 20 minutes to write one paragraph. (I am not exaggerating because I timed it.)

What I do is go into start, control panel, and get into Internet Tools and Internet Options and delete cookies and other items. Then things calm down. I've tried different options regarding which things I delete. (I can't do this on IE because it takes forever so that's why I go into control panel.) This slows down the amount of interruptions.

Another thing I do is use a text document to write my e-mail, use cut and paste to put it in the mail...

What else can I do about all this (c.r.a.p.) that interrupts my e-mail time? It goes by so fast that I couldn't possibly write it down. And I suppose there is some place where I could tell IE to block it all.

You tech folks know everything. I can't cancel my e-mail account right now for a number of reasons. I really hope I get a LOT of how-to RESPONSES.

The only other thing I know to do about this is to re-format my hard disk and reinstall my os. BTY Toshiba Satellite A405-S5000 laptop 2G RAM 110 G HD Vista.

Sounds like virus activity, actually. Popups themselves shouldn't be enough to make you need 20 minutes to write a paragraph.

Either way, you need a good popup blocker and a good script blocker. I recommend Firefox or Chrome, with Adblock Plus and NoScript.

You need to install or activate a Popup Blocker, but I am also wondering what Anti Virus you use. It may be holding things up because it is scanning your email. My browsing get interrupted a lot since I started using Avast...when it slows I look and the icon is spinning (working) in the taskbar. I never had this with previous AV, but I still like the "job" it's doing.

I am wondering if other AV programs cause the halt when the keyboard or browser is active.

I think reinstalling your OS and all that is WAY premature! Wait until you find a better reason to do that. :-)

Your disk drives can be fragmented. In other words, the data stored in a single file is divided into multiple parts; thereby increasing the time required to load the file contents. Defragment it using the Disk Defragmenter.

Click Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Disk Defragmenter. Select the disk drive and click "Defragment Disk" button.

Similarly, the data stored in your system registry can also be fragmented. You need to defragment it using a third party registry defrag tool. Download Reginout registry defrag. Run it, close all other running programs, click Analyze button. If it shows that your registry is fragmented, then click the Defragment Registry button.

So what is happening popups? You may have viruses if these are happening even when internet explorer is closed, so I would recommend scanning your system. Also I wouldn't recommend internet explorer as your browser, it has very poor popup blocking and security especially in older versions. I would recommend downloading google chrome, you can import all your book marks and such from internet explorer into it or you could download firefox if you like the feel of having more menus ect.

Google chrome can be downloaded here: http://www.google.com/chrome?&brand=CHMB&utm_campaign=en&utm_source=en-ha-na-us-sk&utm_medium=ha

Firefox can be downloaded here: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/

You don't have any security program installed on your computer?

The excessive popups is caused by spammware. ( I think that's what it's called)
