I am typing up a list and as you go down the page some words begin right at the beginning of the cell, some words have a small space in the cell before the word begins. This is annoying because the words don't line up unless I go back and put a space in front of the words that start right at the beggining. I've tried to use the center and align left buttons and it doesn't work. Why does this happen and how can I fix it?

Use the TRIM function.

For example, if A1 is the first cell ref in your list,

=TRIM(A1) & copy it down

you probably have a space in front of the cell data if you pasted the data in this happens a lot if the cells just have single words in them you could select the column or row and use find and replace, type space in the find box and make sure the replace box is empty and click replace all. you can still use this method if cells have a few words in, just make sure you click Find Next then replace (instead of replace all).. -Daz

the previous poster is authentic that Excel (a minimum of 2003 and before) would not help Conditional Formatting to a various document. I recommend you create a reproduction checklist (call it MyDuplicateList) in the document the place you have chose to apply conditional formatting, by utilizing linking the cells to the different document, and use that reproduction checklist for the conditional formatting. =COUNTIF(MyDuplicateList,A1)=0 =COUNTIF(MyDuplicateList,A1)=a million Sorry if no longer very clean - no longer truly uncomplicated to describe. Ask returned if no success.

On the top toolbar go into Format. click Cells . click the tab "alignment", and check that Horizontal box is on "general". The indent box should be shaded out but if it is active then put it so 0.

Also check the first tab "number" to see whether that is on General.
