URGENT! About Windows Vista Service Pack 2 in my updates?

hey, i just found an updat eon my computer and its windowsservice pack 2. i went through the update prosses and now its came up a message saying it will take an hour or more and to close programmes....blah blah.... the usuall
but i have no idea what this is. will i loose anything? i have a lot of pictures, music and written files etc.
do i need this programme?
and is theyr anything i should know before i install this programme??

i have the window waiting just now so i need an answer as soon as possible please!! thank you x

it seems usual kind of i dont know about the hour though but if it is from microsoft you should be fine if it is a automatic update it will be fint to use as for what it will do not much that you will notice but will protect you more from viruses ect and you wont lose anything if it is an auto update you should be fine hope this helps

service pack 2 is useful and really should be taken. the version taking an hour is the full works, a smaller version is available but it really makes no difference anyway.

SP2 will start and shut down your machine slightly quicker and just smooths out what few gremlins original vista had. You need SP1 on your machine first
