I just finished an imovie project on my macbook that is about 15 minutes long. When I tried to pop the DVD in to burn it, the DVD just pops right back out. Long story short, I just realized that my mac does not burn DVD's. Therefore I need to somehow export the Imovie onto my desktop so I can burn it onto a DVD from there. Does anyone know how I can do that? I tried to export it onto a flash drive but that clearly didn't work. HELPPP!!!

An iMovie project? You wouldn't need to burn the project package to a DVD. The project is just for editing. Once you have a finalized project, you either Share it (File > Share) to make a movie file or use iDVD to add menus and chapters. Since your Mac doesn't have a DVD burner, your only option with this computer is to Share the project as a movie file. By the way, all iMovie projects have a finished movie file inside. Simply right-click / control-click the project package and choose "Show package contents". You will see a Data folder that has a "whatever.mov" file inside. Voila, there's your movie. When you Share it, you can change the format for friends who don't have QuickTime for Windows installed on their PC, or to make a smaller file size. If you choose a setting for "CD size", it will make a 700MB or smaller file that will fit on one CD. Your MacBook has a CD burner unless it is broken. Step by step:

Open the project in iMovie. Go to File and choose "Share". At "Compress movie for:" select what you need. The file sizes are listed smallest at the top of the list (email). Unless you changed the format at the beginning, all new projects are created in MPEG-4 which will play on all recent Windows and OS X computers. For posting on a Web page for people who don't have QuickTime installed, choose the "Expert settings" and then choose FLV. For your friends who are still driving a '68 Cutlass and using Windows 98, choose AVI.

Burning a CD requires a CD burner. Burning a DVD requires a DVD burner. You will not find any way to burn a DVD without a DVD burner.

If you have a friend with a Mac that has a DVD burner, you can share the project with him by copying the project package to an external drive. If your external drive is borrowed from a PC user, it may be formatted NTFS which won't work with the Mac unless... requires another question from you, running out of space answering this one. He can use iMovie to export a project to iDVD, use iDVD to add menus and chapters, and burn the DVD. The iLife install DVD that comes with all modern Macs has iDVD on it, but it typically doesn't install unless you have a DVD burner in the Mac.

A disk image is an ISO file, which is the image of the CD before it is written to the CD. All CD, DVD, and Blu-Ray burners made by competent people allow you to write valid ISO files to your dvds. A Blu-Ray burner can't burn high-def to ordinary DVDs, at least as far as I've been able to trick it into working. Sorry.

Without a DVD burner, it's impossible to burn anything to a DVD. If the imovie program has an Export option, use it to export the project as a different movie file then you can just "put it on" the DVD, but it won't be burnt to the DVD.
