I downloaded LibreOffice on my new windows 8 computer. I used, and loved that program on my old computer. I opened it today and tried it out, but on coming back to my computer I found the following notice

"Either another instance of LibreOffice is accessing your personal settings or your personal settings are locked.
Simultaneous access can lead to inconsistencies in your personal settings. Before continuing, you should make sure user '(Name of computer)/(Name of user account)' closes LibreOffice on host '(Name of computer)'.

Do you really want to continue?"

I'm a little confused.

With a W8 system they are Locked Down only to Run W8 OS and W8 software, You can NOT download and install what you want, All software for W8 has to have the M$ UEFI secure boot digital signature, Sorry to say Libre Office does NOT have the M$ secure boot digital signature,

M$ is going to force you to buy all your software for W8 from W8 website at high prices, Not only that when you buy MS Office 2013 you will have to pay an Annual subscription fee of $99.00 to use it, and for all updates to the OS and software your going to have to pay for, starting with Windows Blue 8.1 in september

Stefan go it wrong those links are for Libre Office problems with W7 NOT W8,

Maybe you have to type something like okay, yes, or y in the message to proceed, or you can click on something to proceed.

Did you see anything else in the message?

I hope you never opened this program, and ran it more than one time. Because maybe this might be your problem.

First you can choose not open it, but if you see this message again, or your choice did nothing then you can choose open the program.

One of these two options should solve your problem with this computer program.

I don't think by making this kind of decision you would cause more problems.

Well I found an answer for using LibreOffice on Ubuntu (Linux) and OpenOffice on Windows. But I think the solutions would apply to your situation. I think OpenOffice is very similar in its directory structure to LibreOffice.

I don't know where it's located, but you need to use the windows search and find the .lock file. 'dot'lock.

Once you find it delete it.

edit: (not sure if this will help but it should be located in: %appdata%\libreoffice\4\user)

I'm on my Linux computer right now or I would find the exact location for you.

I found a free download of LibreOffice here http://bit.ly/1rmqMSD

A great alternative to Microsoft Office, LibreOffice is a must-try for managing your various office projects.
