I recently had my laptop taken to get fixed at a shop as it needed a whole new circuit board. Whilst it was there are asked the guy to delete everything off it etc so it would run faster. However since I've had it back it keeps coming up with a box that says 'Your computer is not running genuine windows' and gives me a link to a website which wants me to purchase windows. I cannot download Microsoft word or movie maker because of it. Can anyone help??

Thanks.

Oh, and my laptop is an ADVENT something or other and it runs windows 7

The instructions in the first response are misleading. No need to press the Start button.

Right click on Computer on the Desktop and select Properties.

The product key for Windows is on the sticker on your computer.

Since the motherboard has been replaced, Microsoft thinks this is not the same computer. You should have received a telephone number to contact Microsoft when the activation failed. Explain the situation and they should help you.

Hi

Both Vista and Windows 7 allow the user to change product key from within the OS.

1) Click the Start button

2) Right-click Computer

3) Select Properties

4) Scroll down window and click 'Change Product Key'

Of course the shop should have done this for you if they had access to your key.

i've got obtrusive set up this or set up that or Linux is bigger than Microsoft blah blah blah......Microsoft XP and Vista have been known to be in all probability the main gentle OS interior the marketplace with in all probability the main cutting-edge patches. Do what you will although please verify you get a broadband router. a commonplace fee router with NAT (community cope with translation) will preserve your connection it is not proper what OS you ought to use and it will cover your exsistance from lots script-kiddies and cyber web baddies. Slainte!
