You "shouldn't" lose "anything" when you upgrade - unless something goes horribly wrong. No, all your programs and data, etc. will be fine. But it's good that you backed it up just in case.

I'm assuming you're upgrading from XP or Vista. Most likely you won't have any probs - it's possible a device or 2 won't work (like a scanner or printer) and you'll have to download Win7 drivers for it (if they exist).

It'll take a while to get used to using Win7, but it's a good interface.

Have fun.

Good luck,

Whether you are upgrading from XP or Vista, if it's just an upgrade (not a clean Install) everything will be transferred to a folder called Windows Old (which you can go into an delete the Windows folder to gain some space back, you don't need two copies of those files), where you can access everything (fils, documents, downloads, music, etc.) from your previous installation.

Windows 7 is more secure and has some neat features, though I would say it's just Vista without the bugs. The new stuff is kinda trivial, though I do think it's a lot quicker and user friendly than Vista. There's a lot of pages about all the neat stuff Windows 7 can do, so do some Googling (Windows 7 Features) and see what you can find.

its better do to a clean install and not upgrade.. and yes you will lose all data and programs when you do that..
