Please help with windows 7 installation?

I upgraded from XP to 7 a few days back. XP has been wiped off my harddrive and now I'm experiencing difficulty getting windows 7 on. I am upgrading a IBM thinkpad t40, standard specs. I am getting an error code 0x80070570 and its directing me to the CHKDSK utility. When I tried it, it told me that that something couldn't be saved. If more information is needed please do ask.

It is true that you cannot "upgrade" from XP to 7. You can do a full installation though from the XP desktop or from booting with the DVD and going from there.

Do you meet all minimum requirments for installing Windows 7? I would think so if you have XP but just checking.

You may want to download the upgrade advisor and if it gives you any problems with hardware or software, you might can narrow it down to that being the cause.

Here also is a forum topic on the error you are getting, hope it helps.

Are you getting a Blue Screen with the error? Or is the error within Windows itself?

Recommend finding out the manufacture of your Hard Drive manufacture, and downloading their rescue media.

Check the Hard disk for physical problems. If you provide me with the manufacture of your hard drive, I can find the disks for you.
