.pst file cannot be found in outlook.?

I have a user that when she goes into Outlook she gets an error c:\"username".pst could not be found ("username" = her username). Do I have to re-install outlook?

PST files when related to Outlook refer to personal folders created by the user. Personal folders when created can be saved as PST files and reside on local hard drive and they have extention ".PST".



If the user you are referring to has created personal folders then when you login to the account, Outlook will try to load the personal folders. The user must have moved or deleted the "username".PST file where it was earlier. You can get away with the error by opening Outlook:

1) Menu --> Tools > Options > Mail Setup

2) Click on button Data Files and remove the path pointing to the PST related file.

3) Next time you open Outlook you wont give the error.



NOTE: By removing the location for PST file, the personal folders will no more load. If the PST file has been copied at a different location you can make it point there using the above steps.
