Take a look at Linux Mint 6 (Main Edition) its easy to install easy to use and has much of the software you are likely to need preinstalled.

Install it or RUN IT LIVE !

You download the ISO. image of Linux Mint 6 then you need to create a Bootable CD from the ISO. This can easily be done using Nero Burning ROM or similar software. Linux Mint 6 can also be run straight from the LiveCD you have created without touching your Hard Drive.

Remember you can RUN IT LIVE !

Download Ubuntu Live CD

A LiveCD is a special version of Ubuntu (or Linux) that is built to run "only off the CD without needing to be installed"

Dounload it, and it will be an ISO

Download Active ISO Burner FREE here http://download.cnet.com/Active-ISO-Burner/3000-2646_4-10602452.html?tag=mncol

once on the cd put it in reboot and hit f-8 or f-12 when your pc starts and click boot from cd, and it will load up and give you an idea what linux can do without installing ANYTHING

get live CD here https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LiveCD

its a free operating system

so u can use torrents on this one

with out it being illegal.

www.isohunt.com

search for the linux os u want

search for a good torrent downloader

uttorrent

azureus/vuze

bittorent

(pick one) (i prefer utorrent)

download the torrent u picked.

if possible always look for .iso file downloads cause their easy to burn to a dvd.

once the iso file is downloaded

burn it to a dvd.

then pop it in the pc and reboot,

the installation should be launched at boot up.

Linux is open source, and therefore free. For a beginning OS I would recommend Ubuntu. You can get it here-

Go to ubuntu's website and download it from there. I believe you need an ISO burner as well. Or order it from them, it's free and I got mine in about 10 days.

If you can't FIND a linux OS, you're most likely going to have a hell of a time using it. Just my 11 cents.
