Question:
Has Kde 4 killed Gnome?

Who here thinks that Kde 4's release Kde has finally killed Gnome. I mean Kde has always had more features and innovation, but with Kde 4 they finally have a good interface which can combat Vista or OS X whereas the default gnome looks like its from the 90's.

Plus the plasma stuff and built in compositing is great as well, along with kde apps which r better and their integration which is similar to OS X. Kde 4 will also be cross platform compatible meaning u can use Mac OS X Dashboard widgets and stuff.

What do u think? I am on Kde's side since I have always used that.

Gonna use a bad analogy... its like the difference between XP and XP Pro- users don't really see a difference, and don't care long as it works! I suspect that the growth in Linux is coming from Window users who have a broken heart,.. and young peeps looking to try a new 'gadget'. I"ve read a ton of reviews and blogs debating the diff, and honestly, there are good talking points on both side of this debate. Using to Gnomes now, UbU, and PCLOS. Like em both, but I imagine my next trial will be a KD for you know... fair comparsion!

Its unlikely that this will happen and more likely they will exist side by side. True KDE 4 is very polished as was its predecessor however appearance is not everything. Gnome is easier to navigate for many, it is shipped as default on Ubuntu the most popular Linux distro. By the way I asked a friend a question just the other day. I asked 'What is Linux' the answer I got was 'Ubuntu'. Its probably a bit of a crime that people think Linux does not exist other than in Ubuntu. However that is why Gnome will always stand up well to KDE as Ubuntu is so widely used and recognized.

Good luck.

I have for the most part used KDE.

However, KDE 4 is still in development and I don't think is quite ready for mass use.

For now I'll stick with 3.5x since I can't afford to deal with problems in my desktop manager.
