It seems like the computer software on my computer doesn't work for the things i have to do for my online classes. Is it that far outdated or something? My sybllabus says i needed at least Microsoft Office 2007. When i downloaded office 2007 it said the computer must have SP1 or SP2, i think it stands for Safety Pack or something, to run office. I just downloaded SP2 and again going through the computer restart process. Every time i've tried to open office 2007 or run SP2 windows come up saying files are being extracted. This takes at least 15 minutes, will it do this all the time, becaues it has done it more than once today, and office hasn't actually opened for me. I just want to get on my computer and open office 2007 when i need to do homework. What are my options? Computer has windows xp, i have put the recommended updates from microsoft.com?

Do you have the installation disks for Office 2007? If you do , go to the Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs then un-install Office. Reboot the computer.

Then download and install Windows XP Service Pack 3. Then reboot your computer.

When the computer boots back up, re-install Office 2007.

After you're through with these steps, let me know the result.

SP stands for Service Pack, and there are three for Windows XP. You only have a 30-day free trial of Office 2007 unless you have a lot of money and purchased it! If you are a student, this won't work for long. You must now have at least SP2 installed on Windows XP to even get Office 2007 to open, and I doubt if it will run that way. I do not understand why your syllabus requires Office 2007, since it was designed for computers using Windows Vista, not XP. Check your requirements again. And stop trying to load Office until SP 2 is through.

I'm not trying to sound rude - so PLEASE dont take it that way. Im just trying to give suggestions :) I was a poor college student at one time too :)

Since you said you "downloaded Office O7" it is a hacked copy off a hacker website (limeware, torrent, etc) and is not authentic. There is no such thing as a legal download of Office - only illegal downloads of office. This is why it will not open and never will. If by some miracle of chance you get the hack working - its still being reported back to the powers that be everytime you run an Office app that is not authentic. Which if the powers that be wanted to make an issue out of they could (rarely do, but sometimes if they find alot of hacked copies of MS software being reported from the same IP they do go after the individual for $).

Try purchasing Office - or if you cant afford Office - download OpenOffice for free (and completely legal) it is the exact same as MS Office (minus Outlook) and is 100% compatible - you can even save your doc's, powerpoint and excel files as .doc, .ppt and .xls to be opened by anyone using MSOffice.

Well as you have described your problem in detail, it seems to be unusual. well if your system is up to date and still you are having problem i suggest you to run a deep anti virus scan and its better to hav double check, well obviously i will not confuse you, just do a scan through anti virus software and than scan through any free online scanner, its defiantly best to have Double check if its left y one another will catch the problem.

If it is not a virus problem then please try to reinstall your MS OFFICE, well you can also try free copy of openoffice from sunmicrosystem from here : http://download.openoffice.org/ it suports all office 2007 formats and all you need is to register which is free.

for any security query dont hesitate to ask or mail me.

Yeah i want to add one more thing you problem seems intresting so whenever you solve this problem plz let us know.

i hop my suggestion works for you.

have luck.

Nyx is correct - use Open Office for now. Then have a talk with the school administration - not everyone can afford to run out and buy a Vista-capable computer because the course instructor has one and is computer illiterate.
