How do I disable the Windows 7 Speech Recognition auto-off function?

The Windows 7 speech recognition / voice command program is amazing.. except for one thing: when on "sleep mode" it automatically turns off in a couple of minutes. The only way to turn it back on is to use the mouse and click the on button. This is really inconvenient, however, since I'm trying to set up a windows system for my girlfriends aunt who became quadriplegic after a car accident and she can't exactly use the mouse.

So, I just need to know how to disable the auto-off function so the voice recognition software can remain in sleep mode indefinitely.

Also, if you know of any voice recognition software I can purchase that's better, for windows, mac, or Ubuntu (or any other flavor of Linux that's easy to use) that'd be great!

Thanks in advance! =)

Open Speech Recognition by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button,

clicking Control Panel, clicking Ease of Access,

and then clicking Speech Recognition.

In the left pane, click Advanced speech options.

Enable voice activation

Sets Speech Recognition to start in sleep mode and allows

Speech Recognition to enter sleep mode when you say "stop listening."

It seems that the biggest trick is that you must exit windows speech recognition and restart it in order to have some changes take effect.
