Power2go 4.0

Not necessarily. From what I understand, windows vista needs to run off of at least 2 gb of memory for your computer to run smoothly. I have windows vista too and I have 2 gb and I works fine. My mom on the other hand, only has one gb and hers always crashes. So I would suggest gettin more memory because I'm pretty sure u have more than enough space on your hard drive so erasing programs would not be the solution at all. U need more memory. Defraging your hard drive once a week or so might help too. Hope this helps!

RE:

Which programs should I delete from my computer?

My grandmas computer runs so freaking slow. I'm trying to clean it up and make it go a little faster. I dont really know what programs to keep or delete as I am computer illiterate.

First off there are three adobe flash players, Adobe flash player 11 plugin, active and adobe reader 7.0....

My computer sucks too, but I have way more than what you do.

You don't really have to delete anything for example my computer would be much better with more RAM (random access memory) [it's the memory your computer uses]

as well as a new processor (which makes your computer faster at processing information for better performance)

Don't delete anything to do with .NET, frameworks, service packs.. Infact from what you've mentioned, you don't really want to delete any of the third paragraph.

If you're not with AOL as your ISP (internet service provider - the company you get your internet from) you can delete certain things.

Keep flash players, but you can delete Adobe reader I think.

Hope I some-what helped :)

the programs on the hard disk have nothing to do with the speed of the computer, run task manager and see how many processes are running after startup, go to elder geeks or bleepingcomputer and follow their advie on unnecessary programs running at start up

All that porn you dirty bastard.

In all seriousness:

Type in G-Boost on Google, download it and initiate it. You don't have to delete everything it shuts down all background programs. See if that helps if it doesn't come back here.

"First off there are three adobe flash players, Adobe flash player 11 plugin, active and adobe reader 7.0. Which of these are outdated and can be deleted."

Those aren't all flash players. You have Adobe flash player 11 plugin, which will let you view/play flash games/movies through Internet Explorer or whatever browser you are using. Adobe Reader is a separate program that lets you open Adobe .PDF file formats (documents). You need both. I don't remember what the latest one is from each, but you could basically uninstall both of them and go and download fresh copies of each to reinstall.

"Then I have America online. Which I guess is AOL, though i'm pretty sure no one ever uses that. Considering I dont really know what it is. Is it like, a web browser or what? along with the AOL thing there is AOL coach version 2.0, connectivity services, spyware protection and AOL youve got pictures screensaver. Should I just delete everything dealing with AOL?"

America Online is an ISP (Internet Service Provider). Are you sure that isn't your ISP that you use for internet? If you are positive, then you can uninstall all of the AOL related programs. However, if that is your ISP, then you won't have internet and won't be able to download the AOL program again because you would have uninstalled it. So you would then need a disc to install from in order to connect to internet again. Otherwise, if you have something like Bellsouth, Comcast, etc. for internet, then uninstall everything AOL.

"Random files that I know nothing about include, ATI display driver, Big Fix, Browser address error re-director, Google desktop, Microsoft .NET framework 1.0 hotfix (I have like three of those for some reason) Microsoft .net 1.1, 2.0 service pack, 3.0, and 3.5 and 3.5 SP1. There is also a McAfee Uninstall wizard. Microsof Money 2006, Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 redistributable blah blah, Microsoft works, MSXML 4.0 SP2, Power2go 4.0, and Pure net works port magic."

ATI display driver sounds like you probably have an ATI Radeon graphics chip (built into the motherboard) or ATI Radeon graphics card (independent). Big Fix is basically a "fix" program that tries to monitor your computer for programs that supposedly slow it down or conflict with one another. However, I never found it useful. Uninstall BigFix. I have never heard of the browser address error redirector. Google desktop is not needed unless you use that. The Microsoft .NET Framework 1.0...is an old version. I think they are up to Framework 3.5 now. Uninstall the 1.0 version and run a Windows Update after a restart (to get rid of the old uninstalled files) and look for the new Framework version from Microsoft. The Service Packs make windows more stable. They are basically a cluster of windows updates that are all together installed at once. They are needed to avoid crashes and such in windows. Think of Service Packs as basically bug fixes that Microsoft put out in large groups to make windows more stable. Uninstall the McAfee Uninstall Wizard. That thing is a piece of junk. You don't need an "uninstall" program to uninstall anything...Windows does that automatically. Do you use Microsoft Money? If not, get rid of it. The Visual C++ 2008...C++ is a computer programming language for PCs. It is needed, but I'm not sure that the 2008 version is the latest. You would have to look up more info on that one. Microsoft Works is like a "free" crappy version of the Word Processor "Microsoft Word". Open Office is a lot better and totally free. MSXML 4.0...that's Service Pack 2. Leave that alone. It keeps your Windows stable. Power2Go is another piece of junk program - uninstall it. Port Magic is useless for most people.

After uninstalling those programs, restart...then go to Start ---> Programs ---> Accessories ---> System Tools ---> Disk Cleanup. Run that, delete all of the unnecessary junk it finds (it's pretty self-explanatory in the program).

Then go back to Start ---> Programs ---> Accessories ---> System Tools ---> Disk Defragmenter. Run it. It may take 30 minutes to an hour if it's a slower computer, but it basically rearranges everything on the computer to make it load quicker. Think of it as cleaning up a dirty room and putting everything in it's place on the computer, so that it is neat and organized. Hopefully that helped.
