Question:
Xp/Vista/7 which to use?
2010-01-06 09:50:12 UTC
Hello all. I have the full version of Windows XP 32-bit that i've had for multiple years. A year ago i went off and bought the Vista Home upgrade 32-bit version, and have been using that ever since. Recently, all the custom built computers i have seen all have Windows 7 on them, but i'm not sure if i want to splurge on that, because i'm already planning on spending $600 on a new p7p55d pro mobo, an i5 750, an aftermarket HSF, and 2x2g DDR3 RAM. When i get this new build i am looking for how to get the most out of it. (Note: I have a Radeon 4850, if that helps anywhere, and a 750w psu).

Basically i want to know if just using XP>Vista is worth it now (i'm not sure how Vista compares to XP after all the updates). And AFTER that question is answered, i want to know if it would then be worth it, and by what reasoning, to upgrade from that choice to Windows 7.

Thanks,
TG

windows 7 is far better than vista. There are not so many complains about 7 comparing to vista. 7 is rich with new features. so far it seems that win 7 is gonna be a stable version after xp. people like and choosing 7 more day by day and leaving vista. it would be no longer when microsoft will stop working on vista and give full focus on 7. Vista is more likely to winows ME , full with new features and ideas but also full of mistakes and not cosy. there is no meaning using vista while 7 is available.

Since your machine is very powerful, to get the best of it I would suggest u to forget vista. install a fresh copy of windows 7 ultimate (not an upgrade). Also you can use xp under 7 using a program named "windows 7 in xp mode". your ram is good so this wont slow down your pc much.

Otherwise, you can also install xp in a different drive as a different os. so u'll have 2 os and they'll not interact with each other. Pick windows xp professional SP3, this has much upgrade and additional programmes like .NET 3.5 comparing to SP2. This is best to use windows 7 ultimate and xp professional sp3 simultaneously on the same machine to fulfill all needs.

XP is user-friendly usable on all computers and gets the job finished. Vista is advantageous in my view because of fact whilst it 1st got here out it became into far greater than talked and had too many bugs and the industry complained. domicile windows 7 is what vista became into meant to be with the performance of XP and the techniques like Vista (devoid of the bugs or complaining.)

With that new rig I would get the 64bit version of any of them however since windows 7 is the newest and replaced the Vista cause enough people had problems with it and XP , tho more stable, its "old hat" With that new rig I would say the 64bit windows 7. most any program that runs on Vista will work in 7...you may have to update drivers for things like printer etc. If of course your happy with what you have now...you can use it and get 7 in the future!

Hi

Basically windows XP really old by now and it has little features when you look and vista and windows 7 but its still good you don't need much of ram and it's fast is well. But when you look at windows to run it you need more ram then ruining XP you need 512MB ram to run vista. But while MICROSOFT creating vista there made several mistakes and that causing your computer to break down doesn't happen to everyone but it's likely to happen. When you look at windows 7 you need 512MB ram to ultimate version with fast speed and it's nicely looking also its running really smoothly. It's more features than XP and vista stuff like calculator or paint there made them again and put them new features so i will say buy windows 7 it's great and also cheap.

Well, i have been using both XP and Vista since like forever. My computer is like a "monster" and i can tell you the performance difference between both. Now i am using Windows 7, it actually took a few hours to get used to new interface. But i gotta tell you, its even faster than XP. I would say, use Windows 7, not Vista.

The latest the better, with 7 you get more hardware support, like a phenomenal plug and play advancement, better user interface, a newer OS uses less system resources, better performance, and less chances of getting unnecessary errors...
