How do I convert .mov files to h.264?

Question

Where can I find a free converter that will allow me to convert .mov files to h.264 files? The files I want to convert are from a program I purchased a while ago online. I'm trying to make the videos compatible with my 5th generation iPod Nano. (I've tried to upload them to the iPod the way they are an it doesn't work.) Each .mov file is between 30mins - 60mins. So far I've come across programs that say they'll do it, but really don't or programs that will put a watermark on the screen and only accept 3 mins of audio for the entire video.
