Does anyone who has Windows Vista on their computer actually like it?

It looks like I will need a new computer soon. Everything I've seen has Windows Vista already installed as the operating system. I've heard all sorts of horror stories about Vista. Does anyone have something good to say about it?

Vista is the most stable operating system Microsoft has made to date. People that don't like it are the same people that don't like any sort of modest change in their lives. Yes, XP was a very nice OS, but Vista is a step-up.

Let's face it. Microsoft waited YEARS to rollout Vista. They wanted to make it as perfect as possible before they launched it. And they did.

I used XP for years until Vista came out. I can honestly say that I have had fewer problems with Vista than XP. The main benefits include:

i)The Desktop Window Manager upgrade means that when an application becomes unstable it doesn't cause all the other applications to freeze anymore.

ii)The indexing service actually works properly now, so when you search for something in the start menu it actually finds it, even searching inside word documents and pdfs.

iii)Windows Media Center is included by default in Home Premium. It is an incredible piece of software, and it years ahead of Front Row.

iv) windows update has been improved, so that it runs from control panel, rather than making you use Internet Explorer (which has also been updated)

I think a lot of the horror stories come from people trying to install Vista on really old hardware, or as I have experienced myself, people who have never even used it will tell other people, with a great degree of conviction, that it is awful. This is clearly not the case. However, if you wait a few months to buy a new computer, it will likely give you the option for a free update to the new version of Windows, Windows 7, so I would advise waiting for that.

Actually like it? I love it, it was a little buggy when it first came out, but now it's great, I'll never go back to XP.

OK, jdfc713 is talking about me, here's how it's better than XP (I copied this from a similar question I answered a few days a go):

• The first thing you notice is the interface, it's so amazing that XP hurts my eyes now, lol, don't forget to try winkie+tab ;)

• Second thing you notice is the user account control. Most people hate it, but it is so great for security :P

• DirectX 10, if you're a gamer Vista is much better than XP

• XP is outdated and doesn't take advantage of newer hardware

• Back to security, try to plug an infected pen drive in XP then in Vista, in XP if auto play is turned on you're screwed, in Vista, the virus will stand in there among the other options and the only way to get it on your computer is by opening it yourself

• More and better features, take a look at the games that come with Vista for example

• More stable than XP, although most people think the opposite, they are wrong by the way

Me.I bought a computer with Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1.Service Pack 1 fixed any of the issues you've heard about.Anyway, the ''horror stories'' are propaganda written by Mac OS X fanboys and apple cronies who've never even used vista.Anyway, your computer should run great.

I've had Vista since it first came out and have had few problems with it. I'd choose Vista over XP any day of the week.
