Can people see fonts even if they don't have it installed? Special download?

I recall reading something about a program you can download that lets people see any font you're using even if they don't have it. It may have been for webpages only, I'm not sure. Does anyone have any idea what I'm talking about or have the URL to the download, if it exists? Thanks a bunch.

I know with .pdf's and files like that you can sometimes save the look of the document if not the font itself, however if you tried opening a webpage or a Word document or something like that on a computer without the right font the program will make a 'best guess' as to what the closest font match might be.

Sometimes the guess isn't even close, and you'll end up with Old English or bold and italic Times Roman instead of that fancy handwriting font you picked originally.

In order to make sure the font is there, some programs will let you embed the font into the document, see:

You can't open a file, email, or anything with a font that other people don't have. You can however use any font on a webpage. You can download any font, or if you can't find it there are CD's with thousands of fonts in them.

Yes you can see fonts even if you don't have that font installed on your computer, unless if its in a different languange and you don't have that language installed.
