the latest is windows 7 and your computer probably doesn't support vista or 7 considering that it runs windows 98. time to buy a new computer.

There is no upgrade path directly from Windows 98 to Vista.

Chances are that if your computer is running windows 98 it is very old and does not have the ability to run Vista anyway. I suggest you keep using windows 98 until the computer no longer meets your needs, then save up enough to buy a new one with Windows 7 pre-installed.

Your Windows 98 computer cannot run Windows Vista. By the time Windows Vista was released in 2006, computers were 16 times as fast, with 16 times the RAM and more than 16 times the memory as when Windows 98 was released.

Its a fairly simple process though there maybe a problem with the capability's of your machine if its running Windows 98. To see if your computer can handle Vista/7 click here: http://www.microsoft.com/Windows/windows-7/get/upgrade-advisor.aspx

Also id suggest you didn't go to Windows Vista as it was a terrible Operating system and skip it and go straight to Windows 7 its the same with all the bugs ironed out.

Here are the steps to upgrade:

Get a copy of Windows Vista

Insert the disk.

Reboot the computer

Wait for it to pop up asking you if you wish to boot from CD/DVD

Press enter and follow the prompts to install.

If it doesn't ask you if you want to do that you will need to enter the bios and set CD/DVD drive as your primary boot device but thats a bit difficult to explain as all bios's are different. Though its usually located under boot priority or boot order.

Both Windows[tm] Vista and Windows 7 require hardware..that was definitly not around when you bought your computer..

SOOoooo...to answer your question..

#1./compatible motherboard with a video device and high speed RAM..

#2./a dual core processor..

#3./a power supply at least 450-watts..

#4./the latest in DVD and HDD drives..this would be serial-ATA..

#5./a DSL Modem or higher..

===

That should get you back on track.

LOL

Win98 !!??!! Where the hell you been for the last 12 years ????

You cant update - you have to do a clean install.

And I douby your computer can handle Vista, especially if its old enough to have Win98.

Get a job, get some money and buy something that was made in this CENTURY !!
