The only place I've ever heard of for legal music downloads is if you download from RealPlayer 10 Music Store. You'll need RealPlayer 10 in order to buy music. Luckily you can get this for linux! :) You can get it here for a free download: http://www.real.com/realsuperpass.html/?pcode=rn&rsrc=real_home_C1&cpath=guide&src=guide.
Please don't listen to any other answers that tell you that you can download music from limewire, frostwire, bittorrent, kazaa, or any other file sharing program! They are all illegal to donwload any copyrighted material. Think about it, if you were a musician, you would want people to BUY your music, not steal it. Check it out at this link about how you could get caught for downloading copyrighted music from any filesharing programs: http://www.goingware.com/tips/legal-downloads.html#why.
So, remember to download music legally and that is the only LEGAL way I've heard of to download music on Linux.
Good Luck! Enjoy your music downloads! :)

Howdy,
I use Frostwire the Linux equivilent to Limewire, get great results for all searches. You could also try emule, or azureus, they all work, and are all in the ubuntu repos.
