I have added bullets and numbering. When I click the number in Index, it should take me to the exact numbering inside the document. How can I do that?

You may want to temporarily tweak your settings to show your bookmarks you can do this by going into the Tools Menu tab and click on Options, then select the "View" tab and activate the Bookmarks check-box under the Show category. They will appear as [ ] around your text that marks the bookmark locations.

This important and allows you to see where you left off as you create your bookmarks and you won't make the mistake of highlighting the wrong entry number and overwriting the previous bookmark, which will mess everything up because your hyperlinks in the Index wont jump to the right locations at that point onward and you'll have to go back and repeat everything to move all the bookmarks to the right locations.

Create your bookmarks by doing the following:

1) Highlight the entry number where the document will eventually jump to.

2) Left Click on the Insert Menu tab then the Bookmark option (or press ALT, then the letter "i", then the letter "k") to bring up the Bookmark tool.

3) Type the name of your bookmark and click "add" to create it, but use an underscore (SHIFT+ the minus sign) or else the "Add" button will grey-out and you won't be able to proceed. Example: for example if you wanted it to jump to the 192nd entry in the 4th section of the 1st chapter of the file you might put "Chap01_Sec4_no192" as the bookmark.

4) Repeat the process for each number location you want to be able to jump to.

Once all of your bookmarks are created go to your Index:

1) Highlight the entry name on the Index.

2) Click on the Insert Menu tab and click "Hyperlink" to open hyperlink options, click on the "Bookmark" button to bring up the Bookmarks list, then highlight the appropriate bookmark you want it to jump to then hit "OK" and the previously highlighted text from step 1 should turn blue and be underlined after the list closes.

3) Check your bookmark by clicking on the blue text and make sure it jumps to the right location. If it doesn't simply right-click over the entry and select "Hyperlink --> edit Hyperlink" to brink the bookmarks table back up and select the right bookmark location.

4) Repeat for each entry in your Index and create your remaining links. *Ta-Da*

EDIT: I have a much older version of Microsoft Word. The keystrokes and menu tabs I mention may be slightly different, but the general principals should still apply.

i'm not sure I understand this. Is the priority that the entries interior the table of contents are not links? If it quite is it, then according to hazard the table of contents replace into created manually, somewhat than employing notice's table of Contents function. If the function is used, the entries are straight away links to the perfect website interior the documet. to confirm if this is the priority, upload a table of Contents before everything of the checklist. Insert > Reference > Index and Tables. decide for the table of Contents tab and confirm that the choice to insert links is chosen.
