nice choice, I love fedora, tried it after ubuntu and never looked back.

basically, use XP to create a block of empty space on your harddrive (no partition, totally blank space)

during the installation, the partition manager should give you the option (usually above "Manual Partitions - Advanced") called Use Available Free Space, the rest of the installation should be simple ,click next etc.

when you boot up your PC Windows may be under "Other" you can rename this in Fedora under System-Bootloader I believe.

Hope this helps, google specific steps.

though you may get the right answers here, it is always best to join the user group of the distribution of Linux you are going to use, go back to Fedora's website and look there for the answer to your questions and for help with fedora check out the links below

By the way Fedora is not the best neither is Opensuse or Ubuntu, it is just that these are the most well known Linux distributions it is the not so well known distributions you need to look at, not the ones controlled by the commercial Linux company

Unknown distributions are run by the community and they know what they they want not what a company tells them what they can have

check these two out both excellent disros that work out of the box

http://www.linuxmint.org

http://www.sabayon.org

http://www.flamedesktop.com New Linux website for all Linux software

there are other great distributions that just do Games like Ultimate Edition 2.1 it depends on what you want

It appears that you are new to linux, so, I would suggest you the following:

1) make an recovery cd of your xp which came preinstalled.

2) Use vmware to install fedora, vmware is a software which when installed, can be used to install other os like xp, different desro of linux on to xp. That means that first you will run your xp, then will start vmware and then you will boot the guest operating system. You should have good quantity of ram to run it, say 2 gb. If in doubt, you can mail me, at

If you are new to Linux I think you will be disappointed with Fedora, it's a more complex Linux than some others. My suggestion for a Linux that is easy to install and is most similar to Windows, is Mint.

Unless you have a real reason to use Fedora, I highly recommend using Ubuntu's desktop edition.
