Alright, I have a 702mb avi file. I also have Windows Media Player 9. Media Player doesn't like this file for some reason, and won't play the video (but will play audio on 2/3 computers I have). I don't know for sure, but the file may be encoded for Divx. Right now, the only option seems to be to download Divx Player, WHICH I DO NOT WANT TO DO. So, please, if there is a plugin for Media Player or codec that's really easy to install, let me know. Best answer will be rewarded to first person with a link to any such file.

Note: I already tried the WMPCodecs.exe file (or something like that, off the Microsoft website) - it gave some error, and didn't work. Again, I won't install Divx Player, or standalone program. It needs to be a plugin or something of that nature.

Thanks in advance.

You don't need the player, just the codec. Download a K-lite codec pack and install it......

I had the same problem before with an avi file ... the problem was solved when I installed the Divx codec ... even though the Divx players is installed with the codec.. the codec will also be used by the windows media player once installed ... so you don't have to be afraid of installing it ... here is the link http://www.download.com/DivX-for-Windows-with-DivX-Player/3000-2139_4-10721002.html?tag=lst-0-4

Just use VLC Media Player.

It'll play anything you throw at it...no need for codecs or other players.
