Throw that cd/dvd away and buy a new one.Burn the iso image at the lowest speed so that no errors pop out while burning. Also verify after burning.Hey you can also try installing with Pen drive if you have one.Create a live usb and then boot from it.

massage:

"kernel panic-not syncing: VFS: unable to mount root fs on unknown block(1,0)"

This is usually a bad burn on a CD or DVD. If you try to burn the image to a new CD/DVD, use the lowest speed possible to create the CD/DVD may help. The message is actually about what the disk is doing itself. The Kernel can't sync with the files on the CD/DVD.

It sounds like you're trying to install Ubuntu on a Windows machine.

I suggest you enter the Ubuntu world more gently with Wubi.

This installs Ubuntu on your NTFS drive and allows you to delete it at will. Its much less painful to install and can't hurt your current Windows installation.

Good Luck

Did you get the right version (32-bit vs. 64-bit) for your system?
