When Windows Explorer gives a file the type "File" it means there is no filename extension on the name. This is indeed possible.
Sorry.

A "page looking" icon next to a file name is usually a text file (like filename.txt). If you right click on it and click on Open With, the associated programs are usually Notepad and/or Wordpad.
If you need to be 100% sure, open the folder where the file is located. Click on Tools on the top toolbar. Click on Folder Options. Click on the View tab. Uncheck the box next to Hide extensions for known file types. Click on Apply button. Close or move aside the Folder Options window so you can see the folder and the file name you are checking. The folder should show all file names with their extension. Just reverse the process if you prefer not to see the file name extensions everytime.

You need a iso disk creator which you can get for free on some websites or could come pre installed on your computer. Then just burn the disk to an .iso data file

I wrote a piece about file extensions for Helium that you may find useful. You can find it at http://www.helium.com/items/512918-understanding-internet-media-file-types-and-extensions
