Question:
I formatted an old computer and installed ChaletOS. Now my USB ports don't work. How can I fix this?

I'm getting the following error message.

Failed to open "Samsung Flash Drive: XYZ".
Error mounting /dev/sdb1 at /media/user/XYZ: unknown filesystem type 'exfat'.

I suspect the ports are working. It's just that your OS does not recognize exFAT. You can add support for it though. Try whatever's in this link.

when any drive is Formatted, a Filing System is created. there are many choices of filing systems and ExFAT is one used by LINUX. Since ChaletOS is a form of Linux then it could be that its a cut down version and needs a few extra parts installed to get the full read/write support see link below.

Exfat is not an opensource filesystem, it's owned and in some instances licensed by Microsoft.  There are a number of OSs that come with no ExFAT support at install and require you to install it from a third-party repository.  I've no experience with ChaletOS but you can probably download the drivers from its package manager.
