Is there a way to merge pdf files?

I have got the cd for my new chemistry book and i have gotten the pdfs off the disc, but the pdfs are all separated by chapters and sections, so there is a different pdf file for the appendix, glossary, index, answers and one for each individual chapter.
When I open each chapter in 'preview' on my mac, it has all these options on the side to skip to certain parts in each chapter, I want these to combine for each chapter.
Thank you.

Free program PDFSAM Basic (Split And Merge) should do what you want.

Preview cannot merge PDFs. Use PDFMergeThing or pdfsam.

Can you highlight the text to copy it to a word file? Also, sometimes you can open it, then save it as a word or .txt file. If you can get it into a text file then you are golden.
