Is there a browser that provides you the option to download the streaming audio (music) file or video file (like from youtube, etc.; using keepvid and similar sites is, at times, irritating) without you needing to download a separate app specifically for it? I mean, some kind of in-built feature of the browser. I've tried to search it with no luck so far. [Oh,and I know the trick about the cached files, so please don't suggest me that. Let's just forget about it for now.]

If there exists more than one of the kind, which one would you recommend and which one would occupy the least space on the system? If there's only one or none at all, well, then......

And if at all it matters, fortunately/unfortunately my OS is Windows XP. Thanks.

Comet Bird is the only browser which has this feature built in.

With CometBird, you can download any video/

audio/flash that you like to your computer. You

only need to right-click the video that is playing,

CometBird will save the selected file to your

local disk.

There are several add-ons for firefox that will achieve this. Notably ant video.

I don't think any browser has it built it, that's why they have add-ons (but they work)

If the issue is that you're at work and don't have privileges to install an add-on, you can install firefox as a stand alone app with add-ons on one PC (ie a USB stick) and copy it to another without installing it

Nope, not that I've seen. The only way I know of so far is to use third party methods (keepvid, plugins, software, disk cache (if you're lucky sometimes)...). If there's any other way, I certainly haven't come across it.

Download Firefox/Chrome and download the keepvid extension
