okay i just installed ubuntu and it is telling me that some stuff is missing when i try to update via terminal "W: Failed to fetch gzip:/var/lib/apt/lists/partial/us.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_saucy_main_binary-i386_Packages Hash Sum mismatch

E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead."

also i cant install wine program loader it tells me

package dependancies cannot be resolved
This error could be caused by required additional software packages which are missing or not installable. Furthermore there could be a conflict between software packages which are not allowed to be installed at the same time.

The following packages have unmet dependencies:

wine1.4: PreDepends: dpkg (>= 1.15.7.2~) but 1.16.12ubuntu1 is to be installed
Depends: libc6 (>= 2.14) but 2.17-93ubuntu4 is to be installed
Depends: wine1.4-amd64 (= 1.4.1-0ubuntu7) but 1.4.1-0ubuntu7 is to be installed
Depends: wine1.4-i386 (= 1.4.1-0ubuntu7) but it is a virtual package
i am not sure what this means..so please help me with it..

I've never gotten that before, but this is what I would try:

Delete and redownload your package lists by running these commands:

sudo rm -rf /var/lib/apt/lists/*

sudo apt-get update

If the issue still persists, I might change mirrors. To do this, open Software Sources and under Other Software, click Add. A complete list of mirrors can be found here https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+archivemirrors

Then run apt-get update.

If it still does not work, you can reboot into Ubuntu's recovery mode and try "Fix broken packages"

I've also heard about proxies messing up apt, so if you can, disable any proxies.

I gave up trying to do advanced things with Ubuntu. I switched to Slackware, where you are not dependent on the package managers mirrors. It does require a bit more knowledge than it takes to use Ubuntu, but if you really want to learn linux you should ditch Ubuntu anyhow.

I do what you are trying to do with Slackware, and I don't have any problems. With Slackware you can easily download either pre-built wine packages, or build it yourself. Works great.

My spouse and i endorse using http://www.vpnmaster.org to unblock websites. I am using their services for more than 4 years without having complications.

are you using an old version of ubuntu? it could be no longer supported, which means you cannot install programs, or get updates.
