I am NOT looking for software that can find duplicate files that are the same name. I am looking for software that can actually compare images and say if they appear to be duplicates even if the file name or file size are not the same. I used to use a GREAT program called UniqueFiler for this, but it is no longer being developed and will not run on Windows Vista...:(

Have you tried the Microsoft Powertoy SyncToy 2.0? I have found this utility simply irreplaceable not only for photos, but for all types of files, music, video, text files, PDFs, etc, you name it and Sync and find it and sync. However, it does far more than just sync, just read the description for yourself and see if it is a tool you would find useful.

There is another Powertoy from Microsoft called the Raw Image Viewer. I use it for different tasks than the Sync tool. Here is a link for it as well, so you can check it out:

I hope these help you out with what you are wanting to accomplish, good luck and have a nice evening.

*edit* Oh,did I forget to mention that they are free? One simply requires that your copy of Windows be validated. These are for XP, but all you need to do is go to the Powertoys download page in the Microsoft Downloads Center and locate the versions for Vista, if in fact you need them updated to that OS. I have not as yet installed my Vista Ultimate on the computer I built to house it but will soon. I am waiting for more items to be fully compatible with Vista before I install my OS.

DuplicateFilesDeleter is a simple to use, but very effective tool to locate duplicate files in one or more selected search paths. It scans the files/songs and compares them based on Byte for Byte Comparison, which ensures 100% accuracy. You can then choose to delete the selected duplicate or original files. The program is multi-threaded which enhances the performance immensely & performs scans very quickly.

I have experience with those tools and the only one that really works is Visual Similarity Duplicate Image Finder by MindGems.

Supports over 100 image formats and more than 300 RAW camera formats.

Can find similar and duplicate photos in any image format and group them together by similarity.

Try Image Comparer, it can find even rotated or resized duplicate photos.
