Sony vegas help needed, jerky preview of clips?

After recently getting Sony vegas I've started making videos. In my most recent one however, the preview window is so jerky that I can't see to edit basically. I have files in avi format, divx not xvid and the first clip plays fine, but the others freeze. Can anyone help? I've increased the amount of RAM used, I've set the preview to the lowest quality and still jerkiness.

Seeing you have increased the RAM is your CPU fast enough?

setting the preview quality as draft make it more jerky, so change it to preview. all you need is a CPU not a normal but a perfect one. preview is the best quality for preview monitor because it show you something but doesn't eat a lot of CPU usage. having not matched clip sizes with project size can also make this kinds of problems so take your mouse pointer on the border of preview window and drag it up to change the size of your preview window. i think (80%) it solve your problem.

anyway, if your problem is solved go to options>preferences>video and increase dynamic ram preview to a high number (depends on your RAM capacity) and then hit OK. select the parts you want to watch and then go to tools>build dynamic ram preview or simply press Shift+B now you should be able to see this selected parts better.

What frame rate is the source video?



What frame rate is the session set at under file/preferences?



Are they both set the same? Do you have any filters running/plug-ins/effects on either audio/video tracks?



Shouldn't really make that much difference - but should help a tad. You may need a faster machine. They've kind of added things to Vegas over the past few years, and it's kind of turning into bloatware.
