I'm used to PCs having both MS Paint and MS Photo Editor that allowed me to do some basic photo editing. Does Mac OS X have anything (native) to their computers without having to buy external software. If not, what photo editing software packages do you recommend?
PS: I do have MS Office for Mac. Does that have Paint or Photo Editor in it?

Yes, iPhoto and Preview have very simple options to crop, resize, change format, and contrast.
For many more options, try Seashore, free, link below.
Another free app that is aggravating and not intuitive is Gimp. It isn't an OS X app, but runs in the X-Window System environment (a hardware abstraction layer).

Why the **** did you buy an OS to then turn around and use open source software? Just switch to some distro of Linux. All of that **** comes right with it for free. Did I mention the actual OS is free, too?

You don't need to buy software. Their is tons of free perfectly good programs you can download.
