Can't tell you anything that others haven't yet, but I can give you my opinions :)

For Adobe replacement I use GIMP. Some say it has poor interface and other issues, but as far as I'm concerned it does everything and if it doesn't, there's a plug-in for it ;)

VegasPro... Well, I'm not really in anything above basic video editing and for that Open Shot is awesome. For more complex stuff, I hear Cinelerra's good.

iTunes DO run on wine, but you can't access the store or play CDs. For alternatives, I just use Rhythmbox, but Banshee might be closer to iTunes.

Safari... There's many good browsers for Linux, unless you're really attached to it, you won't miss it.

Chrome, I'm on it right now. Google's made a native version for Linux and it runs even better than on windows. Especially love how you can circle through open tabs by using the mouse wheel. Can't do that anywhere else :) (btw, it says it's still in beta, but I've been using it since alpha and it's always worked nicely.)

Arcsoft Capture Module and Camtasia... Don't even know what those are ^^;

uTorrent... Transmission which comes by default's pretty nice. Does magnet links and peer blocking too.

Live Messenger... If you just need the MSN protocol, go with emesene. Otherwise, Empathy is nice, but I use Pidgin. Used to be default and I got used to it. I think it's also more stable, but they probably fixed Empathy by now.

Hope this helps :D

Excessive MHz - pathetic.

Asker wrote that he is new with this OS so first of all You should explain him what is Wine.

Wine is a program for linux distributions which can emulate and run Windows applications. Not all but some and they are not always working well. You should also know that it's some kind of virtualization and applications are slower etc.

Anyway there are some alternatives for 'small' products like uTorrent or camtasia. There is a lot of network messengers which are supporting all systems (ICQ, jabber, etc.). You can also install on linux safari and google chrome or firefox (there is special version).

Soft like Adobe Photoshop or Sony Vegas won't work. If You emulate it via Wine it can start working but it won't be as good as on windows (yes I know - it sux).

You can also read a lot of articles or forum threads about installing a lot of products on linux even where there isn't any linux version of them. People are just trying to launch many applications and sometimes it works. But there isn't any rule of that, You must to search and read solution for every product.

Ubuntu is one of the most popular linux distributions with very big community. Go on the official ubuntu forums and search for Your programs - I'm sure that there are already threads which will answer all Your questions about application support.

Adobe Photoshop CS4/5=GIMP(you might be surprised to know that photoshop's Content Scaling and Fill were available years before as plugins in GIMP)

Sony Vegas Pro=Cinelerra,Soon to come Lightworks

iTunes=Ubuntu has Rhytmbox,The Ubuntu One Music store(which automatically syncs purchased music to Ubuntu One Online Storage and has no DRM and no Watermark) and has native(that means built-in) support for iPhone/iPod.However these features are in Ubuntu 10.04 which is going to be released on 29th of this world ,

Safari and Google Chrome=Firefox,Opera and Google Chrome has an linux version too.

Arcsoft Capture Module=If your DVR is supported you can use TvTime

Camtasia=GTK-Recordmydesktop

uTorrent=Ktorrent but ubuntu has Transmission installed by default

Live Messenger=emesene,aMsn,Pidgin,Empathy(installed by Default)

You will find the switch uncomfortable in the start but it will be worth it.I advise you to wait till 29 so that Ubuntu 10.04 gets released
