From the way you ask your question, I get the impression, that you are not familiar with formating your pc and install windows xp or vista. First of all you need to get your self a legal copy of Win xp home, pro or vista.

If I were you, I would try to get ride of your viruses.because when you format your pc, you loose everything, including your personal and important files. like documents, music, video's et etc. You will have to make a backup of all those files Either burn them on a dvd or copy them to your second partition d drive.

To explain how to format now and install windows, it too much to do in this answer. I would find a friend or somebody who knows what he is doing. Otherwise I see big and I mean

BIG problems.

Instead of spending 100 dollars on the windows cd. why not get yourself a good internet security program to get rid of all your viruses

I tried nearly all of them and found Trend Micro Internet Security 2008 the best.

Why not spend some money in getting something like that

If you wouldn't have the disk, you'll check out restoring it to the primary repair factor you will have by means of: one million. Clicking 'begin' or the home windows brand in vista two. This is not going to delete any of your documents, however will delete any program lately mounted. You would additionally check out formatting your tough drives and putting in the OS once more, however I would not use that approach.

Well, i'm not really sure what you mean by restarting.

1) You want to clean your harddrive of all unwanted programs and re-use all of it's unused space: You do this by going to your C-drive and then rightclick; properties; extra; defragment (i dunno what it'll be in english ^^, i've got dutch version) and then let it do it's job. With this you won't lose vital Windows, Linux, Mac or other OS'.

2) You want to restart your computer. Go to your start-button if you got Windows xp and then press Close Down; Restart.

Restarting only requires you to go to the "start menu" and select "restart". Putting on a fresh operating system is another story and you can't do it without a Windows Operating System startup disk.

you mean you need to reformat and install your system from scratch? not easy without your cds.. apart from the os cd, you'll need to have all your hardware and peripherals cds for drivers..so before attempting anything, find out all your existing hardware and download all the drivers online from manufacturers' sites.. if your os is windows xp or below(not vista) you can use a friend's cd and use your own serial to register it.
