I read somewhere about using the Scanpst to repair outlook. But I can find the Outlook pst file using the outlook menu since it keeps shutting down on its own.

its is kept safe in a hidden folder to search for it

you can unhide the folder(do this temporarily, set it back)

it will be in folder named

C:\Documents and Settings\Me\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

or somewhere similar dependent on several things.

unhide folders

then SEARCH for *.PST

My_computer

Tools

folder options

View

tick the box that says Show Hidden files.

the method is slightly different for each opsys.

if the above is not there then goto help in my_computer and

search for "Display Hidden Files" to reveal the method

Scanpst doesn't repair Outlook. It repairs .PST files that might be corrupt.

You don't use the Outlook menu to find the scanpst.exe file. In fact, Outlook should not even be open when you run the scanpst.exe file

The scanpst.exe file is in this location:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE12\scanpst.exe

Make sure Outlook is closed before you run it.

Scroll down and double click the scanpst.exe file. It will prompt you for which .PST you want to repair.

Outlook crashing could be caused from a lot of things. Usually it's because the user has not updated their computer with the latest updates from microsoft. Is your Windows software updated? Is your Office software updated? If not, go to the microsoft.com website and download and install the latest updates.

If this does not fix your crashes then create a new outlook profile because it is most likely corrupted.

It is easy... depends on what OS you are using but bottom line.

1. Make hidden files show. For win 7, in windows explorer, click Organize->Click on View->choose Show hidden files, folders, and drives... Clock OK

2. Then search for the file *.pst

This way you will find the Path of the PST file easiliy without the Outlook Menu.
