I have a huge collection of e-books, which I all downloaded on a Linux system, and then put on a external hard drive to put the stuff on Windows. Now here's the problem. It keeps giving me an error when trying to copy-paste one .chm. file. I can't even delete it!
I know what the problem is I just need to know how to solve it.
It's the name of the file, it has unknown syntax (several squares!), but since it doesn't allow me to rename it I have no idea what to do.

So is there any other trick? I need to get rid of it if I can't use the file on Windows. Maybe some force-delete application lol.

Thanks

It's probably a corrupt journal entry.  In Windows, right-click on the drive in Explorer and click on Properties.  On the Tools tab, click on Check for Errors, and make sure Automatically fix is selected.  Once it's finished, try deleting the file again (if it's still there).

If that doesn't work, go with the format as suggested by the person above.

You may try to copy the rest of the files somewhere else temporarily and then format the external harddisk completely. This might do the trick. If its a virus then try scanning the file with a good antivirus.

According to me, just boot up Windows, then install Unlocker, a handy tool to delete unaccessible files in windows. I was fed up from annoying messages like "Cannot delete file : Access Denied ??" etc. Then i came across this tool. You need to right click on file you want to delete, select 'unlocker' from menu, then click 'unlock' or 'unlock all'. Then you can delete the file as normal.
