it weird, when i first got the computer a few days ago the transparent glass design was working, but when i restarted my computer they were no longer available. I know i have vista basic and it's not the reccomemded version tro run Aero, but how come it worked before and doesent work now?

The help menu told me to go to "Windows Color and Apperance" and "Enable transparency " but the window i get is the "Apperance Settings", and not the one that allows me to change the transparancy.

I'll try my best to help you out here (I have the Home Premium edition so it might be a little different). Aero is a Ram hog - if your using too much ram with other programs it will convert to non-aero mode so your system doesn't crash (that's a good thing, really). So to reset it you need to do the following: ensure you colour is set to 32-bit, the monitor refresh rate is higher than 10 Hz, the theme is set to Windows Vista, and window frame transparency is on.

This is what I do: go to the logo, select Control Panel (make sure you aren't in the Classic View (if you are select Control Panel Home on the left hand side), select Appearance and Personalization, click on Display Settings, and make sure the colour is set to 32-bit. Also under display settings is an Advanced Settings button - click on this. Under the Monitor tab is the refresh rate setting - make sure it's higher than 10 Hertz - click on OK twice. Go back to the Control Panel (it should be in your task bar at the bottom of the computer) and click on Theme. Change it to Windows Vista - click OK. Go into Window Colour and Appearance (you should still be in the Control Panel under Appearance and Personalization) and click on Enable transparency.

If your settings names are radically different than mine - try this. Click on the logo, select Help and Support, type in Windows Aero and select "How do I get Windows Aero", then select "My computer meets the minimum recommendations, but I'm still not getting Windows Aero..." there are hyperlinks (in blue) to get you to all the menus above.

Hope this helps.

maximum the drivers are out for vista now you get them from the hardware manufactures. in case you have difficulty working utility you marvelous click this methodology and bypass to properties and the compatibility tab we could u run as xp, ninety 8 etc for that software. in case you will possibly be able to desire to velocity up the monster (vista) you need to use an empty usb storage gadget particularly of greater ram. they have a 4gb out now for greater or less $50 thats all i will think of of

Have you ran the "Rate my computer" program? If Vista picks up the fact your RAM is small or your graphics card too weak, it will automatically stop until you upgrade these issues. Did you download all those microsoft updates in the beginning? That might have done it too.
