now i downloaded the DAVE program i think the latest 7.1.2 onto my black macbook computer running mac os x 10.5.7, now i believed this was a free download no license key needed or what not. so when it finally asked for one i removed it by dragging the application to the trash folder and then permanently deleting it....or so i thought. now it still had junk in system preferences so i did the same thing to those. now every time i boot up my computer it says right before log in in: please go to DAVE setup assistant in system preferences and enter valid license. and it wont let me go to add or access another server cause then it says the same thing. now i downloaded it again and clicked un-install this time but it says there was no DAVE files found on my computer. i cant just wipe out my whole computer...so what do i do? PLEASE HELP!!!

Download it again and open the .dmg

The uninstaller is in there. I just checked. You need to run the uninstaller.

Not all programs on OSX can be removed by just dragging the to the trash.

In the future, when you download a program for your Mac, and you open the package, always look in there for an uninstaller. If you see one, keep it somewhere safe for the future.

Also, since you tried to manually uninstall it, you may have broken the uninstaller, so you may have to do a reinstall before you can do a complete uninstall.

Korgrue is right, but there is an easier way. Get Hazel. They offer a free 14-day trial.

http://www.noodlesoft.com/hazel.php

Hazel (The name of a famous housekeeper) checks your computer when you delete something. It tells you when it finds related files and asks you if you want to delete them as well.

:-D Free for 2 weeks. You can install DAVE again, delete it and Hazel will clear out the other files for you. Not all applications include an uninstall application.

Unless you want to buy software to recover the trash you have already deleted only to securely delete it again, no. Emptying the trash simply erases the address at which the file is stored. Secure empty trash erases the address and writes zeros all over the data to make sure its not recoverable.
