I received an excel document as an e-mail attachment. I opened it and renamed it and saved it. I then did some work on it and saved it again. Then I closed it and later when I came back to my computer to work on it again it was nowhere to be found. What did I do? Can this document be found. I spent 4 hours on it!

In XP

Click on Start ==>> Run

Type in %temp%

Click OK

Do you see it anywhere in your temp folder?

You could also do a search for files with a modified date of today.

Do a search for the file. Do you remember what you named it? Go to:

Start -> Search -> All Files and Folders

Under "All or part of the file name" type the name of the file. If you don't remember the name then type "xls". This will bring back a list of all the excel files on your computer.

you have to do "save-as." Then pick a different location because the default location is a temporary internet files folder. Save it to My Documents or something like that.
