Question:
Linux live CD/ USB question?

Hi guys, so, I want to try out Linux Mint (or Ubuntu, still haven’t settled on one yet) and I firstly wanted to try the OS without installing it. I know that that is possible if I make a live CD or a live USB. But I have two questions-
1) about the CD- can I burn the .iso file to a cd using just Nero, or should I use some special program?
2) If I choose to use a USB drive, can I simply extract the files from the .iso file and place them on the USB, or again I should use any special software for live usb-s- like Universal USB installer?
Thank you in advance :)

1st point: ANY good burning program can burn a CD, BUT download the ISO file, do NOT unpack it or let the OS do so. Just SAVE the ISO file to disk open Nero and select "Burn iso to disk". My suggestion though is burn it slowly and walk away.

USB sticks are similar. use iso or img file. You CAN

do it simply -- but not as you said. Windows plays a lot of tricks which make it difficult to boot from files. As I said, it may open your iso file in WinRAR and since it's an El Torito boot image (which Windows doesn't fully support, you won' get a bootable disk. For usbs I like unetbootin:

For cd burning Nero is enough. And for Live USB use Linux own software Y.U.M.I for create MULTI BOOT USB and Linux Live USB.

LiveUSB Creator to create your ISO on the USB or any program that can burn to disk is fine. If you get stuck drop us a message I recently installed LUBUNTU
