Question:
Computer glitch in Windows Vista.?

I am running Windows Vista Home Premium on my Dell Inspiron 530S since late 2008 with no real problem, - until now. I had a password on the PC at start-up, but 2 weeks ago it began "invalid password" messages. This was because the password insertion began in the middle of the box and so could not accept the full password. I removed the internal battery and discarded the password altogether, happy days I thought. Yesterday my daughter was on Facebook or something (hence the original password !) when the computer began the "shutting down " process automatically. It then re-booted as normal until the Windows home page which displayed the message "configuring updates stage 3 of 3 (no mention of 1 & 2 ), do not turn off your computer". After about 20 seconds the screen went blank and the process began again up to the same point. I have tried the usual tests and re-boot sequences, but the result has not changed anything. Do I need a clean install of Windows again, and can I retrieve my files and folders that being the case ?.

Thanks in anticipation

Freddie.

the password thing sounds odd and indicates MALWARE.

as for the updates thing, the messages are fine

each update is installed, but some require the additional

configuration at next start up so thats fine.

whats wrong is there are a number of microsoft updates that go wrong

resulting in the system, closing down and trying to implement the updates again.

this loop is tricky to get out of.

you cant restart into windows to get access to your stuff as the pc is

stuck in a loop microsoft never intended you to have the option of aborting

you need help from microsoft

there may well be an error code you are not mentioning.

if you can press F8 and break out of it by using last known good

then do that.
