Inserting of multiple pictures and captions in Word?

I am trying to insert two pictures in Word that I would like to sit beside each other, ie on the same line. I am also adding captions to them underneath. However when I add the captions, it is making the pictures jump out of alignment and I can't figure out the best way to get them back.

Anyone got and handy tips or suggestions? Or should I just give up now and use another program ( I have one, It's just not as good for text and symbols)

Thanks :)

I should have used a textbox for the captions because they are easier to move around.

The pictures need to be manipulated a bit. Click on the picture and choose Text wrapping - looks like a dog, I don“t know why.. Select Tight or Through. Then you can move them better, but Word is no graphics program, so.. you need some patience.

Apart from wrapping text apropriately I always have found the best way of positioning pictures in a word processing program is to work in a table environment, taking the borders away so you use the table cells for convenience only. So you can put a picture in say the first column first row, another picture in second column and then in the second row each column type the appropriate caption although by using right button of mouse down to caption you can move the text frame around.

In Word 2007:

Right Click on the picture.

Choose "Text Wrapping" select Infront of Text

You will now be able to move your picture anywhere around the page. You can now space out your text by using return/enter and the centre, left and right align text buttons.

Hope this helps.

In other versions of word i.e. word 2003/xp right click on the picture and select properties/formatting. Then select the alignment tab. Select the picture which says infront of text. This will do the same as above.

Try resizing them. Putting pictures in Word is always difficult at best. Try manually typing out captions instead of using the caption tool. Small bold type looks best.
